WEEK 1 STUDIO TASK: ONLINE JOURNALS of Zaha Hadid GUANGZHOU OPERA HOUSE by: design bloom

INTRODUCTION

The Guangzhou Opera House design has been particularly influenced by river valleys – and the way in which they are transformed by erosion.

Fold lines in this landscape define territories and zones within the Opera House, cutting dramatic interior and exterior canyons for circulation, lobbies and cafes, and allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the building.
Smooth transitions between disparate elements and different levels continue this landscape analogy.

Custom moulded glass-fibre reinforced gypsum (GFRC) units have been used for the interior of the auditorium to continue the architectural language of fluidity and seamlessness.

The Guangzhou Opera House has been the catalyst for the development of cultural facilities in the city including new museums, library and archive.

The Opera House design is the latest realization of Zaha Hadid Architects’ unique exploration of contextual urban relationships, combining the cultural traditions that have shaped Guangzhou’s history, with the ambition and optimism that will create its future.

REFLECTION:

Zaha Hadid's work of art of Guangzhou Opera House became my inspiration to do this assignment. I picked Zaha's work because I want to challenge myself of how to create something unique and modern. I used the images of one of my images I found in online journals for my archetypes research of my building I decided to use for this assignment. I also based my folding exercise to model this draft in 3d’s max, I used my knowledge and techniques from what I have learned from the last semester course subject we had for architecture computing, Using 3ds max 2010 version is almost the same as 2012 it just have a limitation on some advance features of the latest one. I rendered my model using mental ray materials to give my draft model some attractive appearance; I follow the idea of Zaha's color scheme and shape of the building. Creating my model I started of creating it from a box and editing the poly segments to what I wanted the shape to look like, It’s sharp and pointy with glass windows to limit the sunlight and give it a nice view from the outside and inside. For the windows I use inset and extrude tool. For my rendering I had to give my model some background with chrome material to give it a nice reflection and view, Target light for the shadows, and the target camera for the set up view. I learned how to create and animation by the video shown by Stephen Davey in studio class on week 1.
